Applications are invited for a 3‑year non‑renewable Academic Career Development Fellowship in global politics/international relations of the Middle East and North Africa, or South Asia. The appointment is based in the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Cambridge and co‑terminous with a Fellowship at Girton College. The post becomes available from 1 September 2026 and ends after the three‑year term. Responsibilities
* Teach and supervise at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, giving lectures, seminars and supervisions, amounting to approximately 70 % of the time in POLIS and 30 % in Girton College.
* Direct research activities during approximately 40 % of the POLIS time, and engage in teaching and examination duties for the remaining 30 % of the POLIS allocation.
* Contribute collegially to the governance and administration of the Department and participate in collegiate work at Girton College.
* Work flexibly across the wider collegiate university environment, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Qualifications
* PhD in a relevant field in global politics or international relations of the Middle East and North Africa or South Asia.
* Outstanding research record appropriate to the career stage, with a clear and compelling future research trajectory.
* Demonstrated ability to articulate how research and teaching support the development of the subject area within POLIS and Girton College.
* Excellent communication skills and the capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
