Randstad are seeking a Site Engineer to join our project team delivering a major redevelopment of a high-security, live government facility at Devonport Docks. Due to the sensitive nature of this site, specific security clearance protocols and eligibility criteria are mandatory for all successful applicants.
Scope of works includes: RC, Drainage, Groundworks etc
This is a long term freelance contract (12 Months+) paid UMBRELLA PAYE.
Lodge allowance will be paid for applicable candidates
Security & Eligibility Requirements
Clearance: Successful candidates must obtain BPSS security clearance (approx. 8-week process) followed by SC security clearance (approx. 4-week process).
Residency: You must have resided in the UK for the past 5 consecutive years.
Nationality: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country.
Key Tasks and Accountabilities:
Working within a live Ministry of Defence (MOD) facility, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Technical Oversight: Setting out works within allowable tolerances from provided site controls and regularly verifying benchmarks and instrument calibrations.
Quality Assurance: Assisting in the preparation of as-built drawings, developing quality check sheets, and recording/testing workmanship for materials including drainage, concrete, and piling.
Documentation: Maintaining the drawing register, completing daily diaries, and keeping project trackers up to date.
Project Support: Assisting in the procurement of site materials and providing engineering support to resolve technical queries.
Safety & Environment: Assisting with site safety, environmental, and quality inspections in alignment with the corporate Health and Environmental Management System.
Communication: Preparing sketches for site distribution and ensuring the workforce understands all setting-out information relevant to their tasks.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications & Professional Standing
Education: A Degree in Civil Engineering or a related equivalent is highly desirable (e.g., BSc, BEng, MEng, EngTech). Completion of a Higher Apprenticeship will also be considered.
Professional Development: Candidates should ideally be working towards Chartership or Incorporation with a recognized body such as the ICE, IStructE, or a similar professional institution.
Certifications: Must hold a valid CSCS Card (White AQP) and have passed the Supervisor HSE test.
Technical Skills & Experience
Specialized Experience: Extensive experience in reinforced concrete structures using system formwork is essential. Additional experience in groundworks and earthworks is highly valued.
Surveying: Proficiency with Leica Survey equipment, including GPS, Total Station, and both optical and digital levels, for precise setting out and surveying.
Safety & Quality: Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and a strong background in writing RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).
Sector Knowledge: An awareness of commercial processes is required. Previous experience working within Nuclear or highly regulated environments is a significant advantage.
Leadership & Operations
Management: Proven ability to lead teams and manage project workflows with high organizational standards.
IT Literacy: A good standard of general IT skills is required for reporting and tracking.
Flexibility: Candidates must be willing to work weekends and out-of-hours on a rota basis as dictated by project requirements.
Desirable Credentials
Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) or Coordinator (TWC) training.
Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS).
First Aid at Work certification.
Experience in developing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
