Overview
NHS Grampian Radiology Department is seeking a Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Interventional Radiology to strengthen our progressive team. The role will be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and involves performing a full range of interventional procedures across vascular and non‑vascular specialties in a brand‑new suite equipped with Siemens Artis Q ceiling‑mounted machines, a dedicated ultrasound room and a 3‑bed day‑case area with full anaesthetic facilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform interventional procedures in vascular and non‑vascular fields, including EVAR (FEVAR, branched‑EVAR, BEVAR), thrombectomy, embolotherapy and other therapeutic interventions.
* Provide dialysis access maintenance, renal artery embolisation for biopsy‑related bleeding and support the venous access service (approximately 88 fistula procedures annually).
* Carry out biliary, urological interventions, CT‑guided drainage and fine‑needle aspiration (FNA) work.
* Participate in a 1:5 out‑of‑hours emergency interventional radiology rota.
* Collaborate with vascular surgeons, urology, gynaecology and other specialty teams, and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings.
* Engage in teaching and clinical supervision of trainees and support research initiatives aligned with clinical interests.
Qualifications and Experience
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC.
* Evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register within six months of interview.
* CESR or Portfolio Pathway registration, or an international recognised specialist qualification approved by the GMC.
* Experience in a range of interventional procedures, with a strong interest in expanding expertise within GI/colorectal, gynaecological or other relevant subspecialties.
* Leadership and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Working Pattern and Additional Information
The post can be full‑time or part‑time with a flexible approach to job planning, including opportunities for additional EPAs. From 1 April 2026 the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reduced to 36 hours (pro‑rata for part‑time), with a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
