Activity Co-ordinator

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Activities Co-ordinator to join our friendly and dynamic team on Mulberry 2.

Mulberry 2 is a busy and supportive acute treatment ward, where no two days are the same. We work closely with patients from across the acute pathway, creating a positive and engaging environment that supports recovery.

Our team has a strong multidisciplinary presence, bringing together a wide range of skills, experience and energy. We pride ourselves on working collaboratively—and not just with each other, but with neighbouring services and, most importantly, with our service users. There's a real sense of teamwork here, and plenty of opportunities to bring your own ideas and creativity into the role.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, is reliable and accountable, and can stay positive and adaptable in a fast‑paced environment. This role would suit someone who thrives on variety, enjoys building connections, and wants to make a meaningful difference in people's day‑to‑day experience on the ward.

Main duties of the job

Aspects of the role will include;

* The provision and coordination of meaningful group and activity sessions for service users.
* The development of activities with individuals and the provision of support to enable people to engage in activity.
* To offer group based sessions with a focus on skill development, social inclusion, communication, education and recovery.
* Working alongside the Nursing and Occupational Therapy team.
* Providing support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain confidence in their skills and abilities to enable a successful reintegration into the community.
* Inspiring hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.
* Within a relationship of mutuality, facilitate and support information sharing to promote choice, self‑determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
* Promotion of the role within the ward and wider care setting.

Job responsibilities

* To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users.
* Help individuals identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals and set recovery objectives, drawing on individual resources and utilising a range of recovery tools, techniques and experience.
* Model personal responsibility, self‑awareness, self‑belief to inspire and instil confidence.
* Use own initiative and job‑related training in deciding on the approach and interventions required when working with a service user in delivering support, although supervision is available.
* Teach coping, self‑help and self‑management techniques.
* Support service users to identify and overcome fears and, within a relationship of empathy, trust and honesty, challenge negative self‑talk.
* Facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable service users to participate in community activities, in order to maximise opportunities for taking on socially valued roles and positive identity.
* Act as a positive role model showing professional and caring attitudes and behaviour towards other multidisciplinary team members, service users and carers.
* Have a focus on the rights of service users at all times.
* Ensure that recovery goals are integrated into the Trusts CPA process and are reviewed on a regular basis, liaising closely with care coordinators as necessary.
* Work in a way that acknowledges the personal, social, cultural and spiritual strengths and needs of the individual.
* Use own initiative and job‑related training in deciding on the approach and interventions required when working with a service user in delivering support, although supervision is available.


Person Specification


Education

* Good level of secondary education to GCSE level or equivalent.
* Level of educational attainment to NVQ 3 / AS Level or equivalent.
* Understanding of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) or whole life plan.
* Related Health or Social Care qualification.
* Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of recovery worker role.


Experience

* Experience of being in a supportive and enabling role.
* Experience of working in a team or a group environment.
* Experience of working in the public sector.
* Experience of working across different organisational boundaries.


Skills & Abilities

* Excellent written, verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
* Able to relate to a wide range of people.
* Able to manage conflict and to help others to do so.
* High level of self‑awareness – ability to critically appraise own performance.
* Ability to assist people to develop recovery plans.
* Ability and willingness to reflect on work practice and be open to constructive feedback.
* Ability to work in an enabling and creative way.
* Willingness to support people with a range of needs to meet their recovery goals.
* Ability to manage stress and to plan and prioritise workload.
* Ability to carry out practical tasks.
* Computer literate in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express etc.


Other

* Ability to transport / accompany individuals to appropriate appointments.
* A willingness to work flexibly through prior arrangement as the needs of the job dictate including unsocial hours and weekends between 07.00 and 21.00.

* Emotional Maturity/ range of life experience.
* Flexibility and reliability.
* Sense of humour.
