JOB SUMMARY: Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes by providing technical support in the development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
1. Designs and implements manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters.
2. Able and ready to perform all the duties of an Associate SMT Manufacturing Engineer.
3. Determines and specifies, revises and/or reviews the most economic methods, operation sequence and tooling for the fabrication of parts, finishing and assembly components, subassemblies for final products.
4. Work closely with quality for quick resolution of CARs as well as to best understand shortcomings of processes.
5. Provide input for manufacturing assembly costs, routings, & DFM for new production quotes. Provides GAP analysis of capabilities required for new production.
6. Assures documentation is up to date including periodic review of routings and process flows.
7. Trains technicians and lead operators in new processes and controls.
8. Develops DOEs based on quality, cost and/ or process development.
9. Provides technical guidance and liaison to product operations, assists the supervisor on new techniques and assists in the determination of root causes of rejected parts and their disposition.
10. Develops manufacturing instructions, procedures and illustrations.
11. Participates in cost studies and equipment recommendations.
12. Provides guidance to assist manufacturing engineers and/or tool designers.
13. Develops pre and post NPI/ Proto reports for customers.
14. Process ownership: demonstrated leadership in the assigned group of processes.
15. Engineering project management: develop and lead test engineering project.
16. Manage schedule, budget and spec on a major engineering project.
17. Training: support development of test engineers and manufacturing team (remote sites).
OTHER FUNCTIONS
18. Attends meetings as needed to support organization activity.
19. Interfaces with customers as required.
20. Performs other duties, as assigned, to achieve corporate and departmental objectives.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
21. Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline.
22. Two to four years relevant experience in SMT manufacturing engineering.
23. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
24. Ability to operate and have knowledge in using MFG PRO software or similar manufacturing software.
25. Ability to assign cost analysis criteria to projects and determine potential cost savings on a project by project basis.
26. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, statistics and permutations.
27. Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and demonstrate the ability to determine critical parameters and develop process controls.
28. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
29. Must be able to read and understand PCA assembly drawings and technical notes.
30. Demonstrated ability with technical writing. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to management and technical staff audiences. Ability to stand in front of small to large technical audiences and provide training.
31. Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.
32. Sound written and oral communication skills; must be able to write and understand routine reports, follow oral and written instructions, and speak effectively.
33. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people.
34. Must have knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment and be familiar with commonly used CAD, email, Internet, word processing, databases and spreadsheets.
35. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and materials. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
36. Familiarity with IPC 610 guidelines.
37. Prefer four years experience in a SMT manufacturing environment with specific SMT knowledge.
38. Experience in Contract Manufacturing and EMS industry desired with an emphasis in supporting an offshore manufacturing facility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, talk, hear, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach with hands and arms. The environment is fast-paced; time pressured, and requires accuracy. The employee will regularly multi-task between projects, be required to move throughout the office building, and effectively communicate. The normal environment is quiet and typical of an open cubical setting with some areas that may be louder at times.
