Role Overview This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring IT professional to join the organisation as an IT Apprentice. You will work closely with the IT Manager to support the day-to-day running, maintenance, and improvement of IT systems across multiple sites. The role will give you hands-on experience in IT support, hardware, software, cyber security, and customer service, while also completing a formal apprenticeship qualification. You will act as a key point of contact for IT-related issues, helping colleagues resolve technical problems efficiently and professionally. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in IT who enjoys problem-solving, learning new technologies, and supporting others. Key Responsibilities Support the IT Manager with the monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing development of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals. Provide first-line IT support to staff across several sites, acting as the initial point of contact for technical issues and requests. Troubleshoot and resolve common IT problems such as slow computer performance, printer and peripheral issues, login problems, and software errors. Assist with the setup, configuration, and installation of new IT equipment, including PCs, laptops, monitors, phones, and other hardware. Support user account management tasks, including creating user accounts, resetting passwords, and managing access permissions in line with company policies. Identify when issues are more complex and escalate them to the IT Manager, ensuring clear communication and accurate handovers. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of IT equipment and assets across all sites, including logging new equipment and tracking repairs or replacements. Assist with basic networking tasks, such as connecting devices to the network and ensuring equipment is correctly configured. Coordinate cyber-security e-learning by sending reminders, tracking course completions, and providing support to staff who experience difficulties accessing the training. Actively promote good cyber-security practices across the organisation, including the use of strong passwords, recognising phishing emails, and following safe data-handling procedures. Ensure all IT work is carried out in line with company IT policies, security standards, and data protection regulations. Travel between sites as required to provide on-site IT support and equipment setup. Complete all apprenticeship training requirements, coursework, assessments, and reviews, and apply learning directly within the workplace. Take part in ongoing on-the-job learning, shadowing experienced colleagues and gradually building independence and confidence in the role. Skills, Knowledge & Personal Qualities A strong interest in IT, technology, and problem-solving, with a genuine desire to build a career in the IT sector. Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and calmly to non-technical users. Strong customer service skills and a helpful, professional approach when supporting colleagues. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also being willing to ask questions and seek support when needed. A proactive attitude towards learning, with the motivation to develop new technical and professional skills. Basic understanding of computers, operating systems, and common software packages such as Microsoft 365. Confidence with basic IT tasks such as PC building, upgrading components, setting up new equipment, and connecting hardware and peripherals. Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks. Reliable, responsible, and able to follow instructions and procedures accurately. Awareness of cyber-security risks and a willingness to follow best practices to protect systems and data. A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between multiple sites as required. Training & Development The successful candidate will be enrolled onto a recognised IT apprenticeship programme. You will receive structured training, regular support, and mentoring from the IT Manager and apprenticeship provider. The role offers valuable hands-on experience across a wide range of IT systems and technologies, supporting long-term career development in IT support and infrastructure.
