Your New Role
This MCR Supervisor oversees day‑to‑day operation of the Master Control Room (MCR) in a 24/7 broadcast environment. The post supports high‑profile live output by coordinating people, processes and technology, while working closely with internal teams and external partners to maintain operational standards.
Role Accountabilities
* Oversee and supervise MCR shift operations across a 24/7 environment.
* Carry out all line management responsibilities for the MCR team, including wellbeing, development, culture and performance.
* Maintain an effective MCR environment, encouraging engagement, focus and collaboration during high‑profile events.
* Coordinate staff rosters, including overtime and freelance cover, ensuring appropriate skills and knowledge are available for each event.
* Provide proactive oversight of day‑to‑day MCR activity, including fault investigation and resolution.
* Ensure the team is fully trained and prepared to deliver all scheduled events.
* Support effective delegation and knowledge sharing across the MCR team.
* Represent the MCR in internal and external meetings and communications.
* Contribute to planning future operational requirements and events, ensuring clear handover to the wider MCR team.
* Coordinate with Production, T&O departments and third‑party providers to enable successful live content delivery.
* Attend operational, planning and project meetings, advising and influencing decision‑making.
* Help define and maintain MCR technical workflows and systems, including creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures.
* Ensure new workflows and systems are documented, understood and supported by appropriate training.
* Troubleshoot technical issues, escalating faults to relevant teams and following through to resolution.
* Liaise with third‑party contribution circuit suppliers and internal stakeholders.
* Write and collate detailed reports relating to MCR issues or outages.
* Undertake other duties as required to support MCR operations.
* Provide day‑to‑day responsibility for all staff on shift, with line management of 10+ direct reports.
Qualifications & Experience
* Previous supervisory or managerial experience with direct line management, including recruitment, development and team culture.
* Experience in staff training and in creating, maintaining and updating SOPs.
* Thorough understanding of current or comparable MCR systems, equipment and broadcast delivery models.
* Clear insight into project impacts with the ability to identify mitigating solutions.
* Expertise in troubleshooting technical issues and developing effective workarounds.
* Operational knowledge of MCR technology and workflows, including SDI and IP video and audio routing.
* Fundamental understanding of IT networking infrastructure.
* Experience with broadcast control systems, ideally BNCS and Nevion Video IPath.
* Experience working with a range of video standards, including UHD.
* Understanding of video and audio timing principles.
* Operational knowledge of tools used to diagnose video and audio issues, including waveform monitors and audio monitoring units.
* Operational knowledge of professional satellite contribution equipment such as dish position controllers, spectrum analyzers, transport stream analyzers, receivers and decoders.
* Familiarity with contribution standards including J2K, H264 and HEVC.
* Understanding of the operational requirements of Ingest, Playout and Production facilities.
* Experience maintaining and creating operational processes and procedures in collaboration with managers and other teams.
Working Hours and Schedule
The MCR operates 24/7/365. This shift‑based role requires a 40‑hour week that includes weekends and public holidays. The position is on‑site and may entail change of working patterns at the discretion of WBD, with reasonable notice.
