About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

Buckinghamshire Council strives to make Buckinghamshire the best place to live, raise a family, work and do business.

The Grade 7 roles on offer attract a salary to £46,018.

Subject to qualifying probationary periods, as an employee at Buckinghamshire Council you can expect to access a wide range of benefits and support including:

3. Performance related payment linked to our annual appraisal
4. Flex-time working patterns
5. Employee discounts on anything from tyres to childcare
6. A Cycle to work scheme

As one of the largest local authority building control teams in the country we are able to support you through your career aspirations and help guide your learning and development. As part of the team you will benefit from the vast knowledge and experience of senior colleagues but will be expected to have the autonomy and confidence to make your own informed decisions.

About the role

These are full-time roles with a mobile work profile. This means that you will be able to work from a variety of locations in order to fulfil your duties, including remote and home working and with access to the Council’s permanent office bases.

Our Inspectors are involved with a vast range of projects across the county and we provide support to the Building Safety Regulator through engagement in a number of their multi-disciplinary teams (MDT).

As a member of the team you will support clients and colleagues and be a fundamental part of advising the council on fulfilment of the building control functions.

Key responsibilities:

8. Working with a range of duty holders to support them through the building control process
9. Carrying out building control restricted activities –
10. checking plans for approval
11. site inspections to assess the compliance of building work
12. Investigating and reviewing unauthorised building works
13. Promoting the building control services of Buckinghamshire Council
14. Liaising with building control peers and colleagues from the wider council services on building control matters

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

You will be:

15. registered with the Building Safety Regulator at a minimum of Class 2 A and be able to carry out unsupervised the restricted activities
16. experienced in the delivery of building control with working knowledge of the Building Act 1984, The Building Regulations 2010 and associated legislation
