Job Title: Senior Fellow in Stroke Medicine
Start Date: August 2026

Purpose for Fixed Term: Training Contract
This post is appointed on a fixed‑term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development. While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum.
Main Duties
* Stroke Senior Fellow Training Fellows, IMT3+ level, required for University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust from August 2026 for one year. The role supports the acute stroke service for Southampton patients and the regional mechanical thrombectomy service for Wessex.
* Participate in Acute Stroke Liaison sessions: immediate response to new patient referrals from the Emergency Department or other hospitals, and review of other patients referred from within the hospital, supporting the ACPs and consultants on the stroke on call.
* Attend HASU & ASU sessions: review of new and rehab patients admitted to the unit with consultant supervision including MDT work.
* Provide TIA clinics weekly.

Professional Development
Appointed under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed fellow doctors. Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, with a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. CPD is highly supported and encouraged, with options for study leave.
Salary is assessed based on experience and skills, with basic salary at the nodal pay point and additional remuneration as applicable. Eligibility to a Nodal Point 5 requires:
* Minimum of 6 years of Specialty training
* Relevant higher specialty exam (FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
* Evidence of progression aligned with the curriculum for the speciality.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
* MRCP
* Experience in general medicine at CMT or above level
Desirable criteria
* Previous experience in acting at specialty registrar / IMT3 level
* Stroke medicine experience
* Publications
* Experience of working within the NHS
* Research and audit experience
