Offer description

It is an exciting time to join Northumberland County Council Adult Social Care (ASC) as we commence recruitment of Newly Qualified Social Workers into our NORTHUMBERLAND ADULT SOCIAL WORK ACADEMY. We believe the model we have in Northumberland is unique nationally.

Northumberland’s Social Work Academy received an external quality assurance visit from Skills for Care in March 2023. Assessors from Skills for Care reported they found the work of the academy to be “an exemplar of national best practice in relation to the work and experiences of the academy”.

We would like to offer you an opportunity to complete your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) with us as part of this innovative and bespoke Academy which commences in September 2026.

Come and join us and we’ll provide an excellent framework of support!

Working full time, you will partake in a programme specifically selected to develop your skills, competencies and confidence. Throughout this, you will be supported by very experienced managers / ASYE assessors to apply your social work values to a carefully selected caseload.

* We will help you develop your knowledge and skills within a nurturing environment, resulting in the development of you as a confident, caring social worker with a robust value base.
* We will help you develop your knowledge base of the various legislative frameworks concerning ASC, such as the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
* You will be given reflective supervision on a regular basisin order to support your application of theory to practice.
* You will partake in training, groupsupervisionand mentoring.

Depending on successful numbers, there may also be short term job opportunities within Northumberland ASC in non-social worker roles to bridge the gap between ending University and gaining your qualification / registration.

Northumberland County Council are extremely proud of our employees, who are passionate and committed to improving outcomes for our service users.
