Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare?
We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team in our unit in Birmingham South, working 22.5 hours per week on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Responsibilities
* You will provide high quality clinical care to clients across BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy.
* You will be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment and will work in all areas of the unit including theatre & recovery.
* You will provide treatment and clinical information to clients both in person and over the phone.
* Work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice and wider regulatory frameworks (Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act) as well as BPAS policies and procedures.
* Ensure that the client understands her options in relation to the pregnancy and, if choosing termination, meets the grounds of the Abortion Act.
* Provide information on STI testing, undertake tests, provide results, and discuss future contraception choices.
* Check and implement procedures indicated on client notes, including administration of medications for Medical Abortion or cervical preparation.
* Carry out post-treatment check-ups and discuss any concerns with the client.
* Complete relevant paperwork and, in the event of post-treatment problems, make arrangements with the clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
* Care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments, which could include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation, or local anaesthetic.
About You / Qualifications
* Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Registered Midwife with active NMC registration and PIN.
* Clinical practice experience of at least 12 months and a keen interest in sexual health and reproductive healthcare.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills with compassionate and empathetic client care.
* Comfortable using IT and Microsoft packages including Outlook, Word and Teams.
* Desirable: Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty (sexual health, contraception); contraception skills; ultrasound scanning skills.
* Essential: Venepuncture / cannulation skills.
