General Practitioner – Wellspring Medical Centre
To provide high-quality, patient‑centred primary care service to the practice population while adhering to GMC standards and NHS contractual requirements.
Main Duties of the Job
The Salaried GP will provide high‑quality clinical care to patients, including consultations in person, by phone; diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions; prescribing medications; and making appropriate referrals. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, participating in audits and quality improvement activities, working collaboratively with the practice team, supporting training where appropriate, and ensuring compliance with GMC standards and ongoing professional development.
About Us
We have an exciting opportunity for a Maternity Locum GP (5 sessions) to join our friendly team at Wellspring Medical Centre. The role covers Monday (all day), Tuesday (all day), and Wednesday (afternoon), starting Monday 11th May 2026 for 26 weeks until Wednesday 4th November 2026. You’ll work in a purpose‑built surgery with a supportive, close‑knit team who meet daily for coffee and collaboration. Our shared workload model means no stressful on‑call days. Clinics start at 9am Monday and Tuesday, and 3pm Wednesday, with finish times around 5:30pm (Mon/Tue) and 6:30pm (Wed).
Wellspring Medical Centre is a medium‑size practice (list size 9,500), located just 5 minutes from M4 Junction 28. Our team includes 5 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, an ANP, nurses, HCAs, and a phlebotomist, supported by cluster physiotherapy, wellbeing, and pharmacy services. We are an established training practice, committed to teaching and providing a positive, supportive environment. We offer enhanced services including minor surgery, LARC, and shared care monitoring.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide consultations via face‑to‑face, telephone, and online appointments.
* Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions.
* Prescribe medications in line with local and national guidelines.
* Make appropriate referrals to secondary care or other services.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
* Participate in audits, QAIF, LES/DES, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support clinical governance and attend practice meetings.
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
* Support training of medical students and GP trainees where applicable.
* Ensure compliance with GMC standards, confidentiality, and data protection.
* Engage in CPD and appraisal/revalidation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
* Inclusion on the NHS Wales GP Performers List (or eligibility to join).
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
* Completion of GP Specialty Training and possession of MRCGP (Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners).
* Right to work in the UK.
Experience
* Strong clinical knowledge and decision‑making skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to patient‑centred care and continuous professional development.
* Experience in chronic disease management.
* Interest in teaching, research, or leadership roles.
* Familiarity with clinical systems.
