Job Description
As a Senior Software Engineer in our Development Modernisation team, you'll tackle diverse, intellectually stimulating problems spanning developer experience enhancement and application evolution.
Your work will directly impact thousands of engineers at the firm. You'll drive innovation across our technology landscape by building pathways to modernise systems, introducing cutting-edge tools, and establishing best practices that empower development teams.
To be successful as a Senior Software Engineer in Development Modernisation, you should have:
* Excellent proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem
* Solid understanding of software architecture patterns and design principles
* Experience with modern CI/CD solutions such as GitHub or GitLab
Additional valued skills include:
* Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
* Experience with OpenRewrite or similar automated refactoring tools
* Interest in LLM applications for software development; understanding of prompt engineering for development tasks
You may be assessed on key skills relevant for success, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and technical skills.
This role is based in Glasgow.
Purpose of the role
To design, develop, and improve software utilizing various engineering methodologies that provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

* Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions, ensuring code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
* Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives.
* Participation in code reviews and promoting a culture of quality and knowledge sharing.
* Staying informed of industry trends and contributing to technology communities.
* Adhering to secure coding practices and implementing effective unit testing.
