Support Young People to Rebuild Confidence in Learning the provision in Poole is seeking an empathetic and academically confident Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary PRU provision supporting pupils with additional learning and emotional needs. This setting provides a calm and nurturing environment for young people experiencing challenges such as Autism Spectrum Condition, emotionally based school avoidance, anxiety-related difficulties and barriers connected to attendance. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who values relationship-based support and enjoys helping learners rebuild confidence within education. Class sizes remain intentionally small, enabling staff to provide highly personalised guidance and meaningful encouragement to every pupil. Working within a team consisting of a teacher and support assistant, you will contribute to both the educational and pastoral development of students working across a range of abilities, including those preparing for GCSE qualifications. Strong literacy and numeracy skills are therefore essential, while knowledge of Science would also be beneficial. The successful candidate will understand the importance of patience, consistency and emotional reassurance. Many pupils within this setting require adults who can provide stability, positive communication and gentle encouragement while promoting independence and self-belief. What You’ll Be Doing • Assisting pupils during curriculum activities across multiple subject areas • Supporting learners who experience anxiety or difficulties attending school • Helping young people remain focused, organised and engaged during lessons • Encouraging emotional wellbeing and positive self-esteem • Adapting resources and explanations to suit individual learning profiles • Promoting confidence in Maths, English and core subjects • Working collaboratively with teachers, families and pastoral teams • Supporting pupils in achieving personal and academic targets This position would suit someone with experience in SEND, mental health support, youth services or care settings, although applications are welcomed from individuals with transferable skills and a strong passion for inclusive education. the provision prides itself on creating a supportive culture where staff are valued, teamwork is encouraged and professional development is actively promoted.
