Senior Support Worker

The Children and Young People Mental Health Crisis and Intensive Support Team are recruiting a Senior Support Worker, based in Lichfield.

In the role you will work with young people and where appropriate and necessary their families or care providers who present in Mental Health Crisis and/or need intensive 'home-based' support. You will provide ongoing support, therapeutic interventions when agreed, practical assistance and problem resolution under the supervision of a senior team member. You will support with supervising young people and families to implement and review risk planning and engage in relevant support services.

As part of this role, you will be required to travel across wide geographical area and have access to a car, with valid driving licence and business insurance.

Main duties of the job

* Contribute to a range of mental health, physical health and behavioural assessments and intervention strategies as delegated by other team members.
* Implement and support detailed care plans, outcome measures documentation, risk assessments, and treatment programmes (including intervention Support Plans, mental health and multi-disciplinary care plans).
* To work in partnership with advocates where appropriate on behalf of service users and carers to ensure that complex care needs are met and that all concerns are escalated to an appropriate level.
* To form professional relationships with families and carers of referred individuals to promote effective and timely positive outcomes.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Foundation degree in relevant subject or Diploma/NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or accredited prior learning with competency based evidence supplemented by short courses
* Training in working with children with severe learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour, and/or other behavioural work


Experience

* Significant experience of working with children with Mental Health Needs as a member of a multidisciplinary community team. Experience of working within a multi-agency framework
* Experience of formulating a child's difficulties and developing a care plan
* Experience of employing evidenced based interventions with children
* Experience of supporting other workers and role modelling recommended approaches / interventions in practice.
* Experience of working with families
* Able to work independently, without direct supervision
* Previous work with people with complex and high-risk presentations
* Previous experience of working in a health or social care setting, either statutory or non-statutory service
* Lived experience of mental health needs, issues or lived experience of use of mental health services
* Experience of supporting service users in a home based/ community setting


Skills

* Knowledge of CYP mental health and needs of vulnerable persons in relation to their health and well-being
* Range and level of skills, depth and extent of knowledge required
* Good practical knowledge of child development
* Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
* Ability to liaise and network widely and effectively
* Ability to be able to use evidence-based interventions to effectively support and treat child mental health difficulties
* Have the ability to de-escalate emotionally volatile situations
* Utilise evidence based clinical outcome measures
* Demonstrates empathy, compassion and patience
* Demonstrates an ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with children and families.
* Demonstrates a keenness to make a positive contribution to improving the quality of life for children with mental health problems
* Demonstrates an ability to act calmly in emergencies and to respond in a professional manner in occasionally stressful and challenging situations
* Has knowledge of legal guidance and frameworks when working with children and families
* Has a working knowledge of evidenced based interventions
* Has a working knowledge of developing therapeutic relationships with children and families
* Demonstrate effective communication skills, written and verbal.
* Ability to problem solve using solution focused approach and recognise own limitations
* Proficient in IT skills in order to update service user records, record and present the outcome of assessments, behavioural analysis and interventions
