Purpose And Scope Of The Role
Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is recruiting a Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for water quality projects across AMP8 and AMP9 programmes. You will manage project delivery from feasibility and options development through design, intervention planning and reporting, ensuring work is delivered to agreed quality, time and budget. Day‑to‑day, you will lead a multidisciplinary team, coordinate survey and delivery activities, engage clients and stakeholders, and produce technical outputs that feed into multi‑million pound programmes.
Your Impact In This Position
You will immediately strengthen project delivery and mentor less experienced colleagues. Over the medium term, you will take ownership of larger programmes, drive improvements in delivery practice and influence client standards.
Core Capabilities
* Technical leadership – Demonstrable engineering expertise in water quality, able to lead design reviews, intervention planning and assurance activities.
* Project delivery & controls – Proven ability to manage time, cost and quality on multiple projects, implement change control and report on programme performance.
* Stakeholder engagement – Confident client‑facing communicator able to present solutions, manage expectations and build collaborative relationships.
* Data & systems proficiency – Experience handling large datasets, time series analysis and GIS (MapInfo/ArcGIS/QGIS) to inform design and decision making.
* People development & safety culture – Skilled at coaching colleagues, promoting HSE obligations and embedding high‑performance behaviours across the team.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Expected: degree in a relevant technical subject; proficient in MS365; valid driving licence. Desirable: chartership or working towards it, postgraduate qualifications and membership of a relevant professional institution.
Work Patterns & Locations
Hybrid role with a regional base; typical office attendance 2–3 days per week and regular site visits across the North West and wider UK as project demands require. Flexible working is considered.
