STOP! Come and support your local community by joining Essex County Council's School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Lawford Mead County Infant & Junior Schools, Trent Road, Chelmsford.
This position covers morning and afternoon crossings to help keep pedestrians safe as they travel to and from school and surrounding locations. The role is approximately 7.5 hours per week, with holiday pay included. Availability is required during the 39 weeks of the academic year for ~45 minutes in the morning (08:00 - 09:00) and ~45 minutes in the afternoon (14:45 - 15:45), depending on site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
We are seeking a punctual, reliable individual who is approachable and enjoys engaging with the public.
Responsibilities
* To have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
* Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
* Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site in order to identify any problems. Report problems and defects to supervisor.
* Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
* Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements requested when needed.
* Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensuring that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
Qualifications / Requirements
We are looking for a punctual and reliable individual who is approachable and enjoys engaging with the public. You will need to be available during the stated hours and weeks, and able to work on site as required. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
