Overview

As a Healthcare Assistant you will assist in the delivery of high quality nursing care to patients in HMP Exeter with the support of a registered nurse. You will provide physical care to patients according to a written care plan, actively engaging with patients in holistic, needs-led care that considers physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs. You will promote health and well-being through health promotion activities and programmes, responding to patients’ needs and helping them attain optimal physical health. This role requires effective communication, and you must respond to patient needs in an honest, non-judgemental and open manner. The role operates within offender healthcare, supported by your team to make a difference each day.

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is expanding recruitment for offender healthcare. This opportunity is to join our friendly team at HMP Exeter on bank. Our healthcare team promotes health and well-being and delivers Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy and Clinical Substance Misuse in an integrated model to improve wellbeing and outcomes.


Responsibilities

* Respond to the needs of patients in an honest, non-judgemental and open manner, respecting the rights of individuals and groups.
* Actively engage with patients in the provision of holistic, needs-led care that considers physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs of individuals and groups.
* Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities for all people.
* Demonstrate knowledge of professional boundaries and how to apply them when working with patients, offenders and others.
* Respond to the needs of people sensitively with regard to age, culture, race, gender, ethnicity, religion and disability, especially regarding patient privacy and dignity.
* Understand the need for promoting health and well-being and the delivery of health promotion activities and programmes (including patient self-help programmes) in support of a registered nurse.
* Understand the need for and assist patients to attain optimal physical health and assist with physical procedures in support of a registered nurse.
* Demonstrate good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
* contribute appropriately to risk assessment and individualised care planning.


Important information

* All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.
* You will need to provide: proof of right to work, proof of ID (including one photographic ID), proof of address documentation.
* Non-UK passport holders need correct documentation (right to work in the UK) and a Home Office Share code.
* Address history: 5 years; applicants not UK passport holders with less than 5 years UK address history will need to provide an English-language Police Certificate from prior residencies. UK passport holders who have lived abroad for more than six months in the last three years require a certificate of good conduct or overseas police check in English.
