Job Title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements; please consult your recruiter for options.
Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience.
What You’ll Be Doing:
1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
2. Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
3. Collaborate with the Office of the Chief Engineer to support assurance activities.
4. Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile tools.
5. Ensure timely delivery of the engineering plan, providing guidance on engineering methods and processes.
6. Engage with the Engineering Delivery Team to develop technical solutions and support team development.
7. Work with legacy stakeholders on technical solutions based on known baseline designs.
Skills and Experience:
* Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems, meeting functional, defence, and industrial standards.
* Knowledge of managing non-functional requirements such as EMC and shock compliance.
* Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents like I/O schedules, functional specifications, interface control documents.
* Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
* Desirable: Understanding of control system architecture, communication protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS), IEC 61508 safety standards, and experience with manoeuvring systems.

Contribute to designing the Royal Navy’s next attack submarine, working with legacy and new control technologies, collaborating with stakeholders and suppliers. Relocation support is available for eligible roles.
