Are you passionate about supporting survivors of domestic abuse and making a real difference in a healthcare setting?
We’re looking for a dedicated Hospital Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join our Specialist Housing team and provide high-quality, trauma-informed support to individuals at high risk of harm.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly within Maternity and A&E wards at the Oxfordshire NHS Trust, supporting survivors from the point of crisis and helping them access the services they need to stay safe and rebuild their lives.
Key Responsibilities
* Hold a caseload of survivors and conduct comprehensive risk and needs assessments (DASHH).
* Provide emotional and practical support, including safety planning and advocacy across housing, health, legal, and welfare systems.
* Work within a multi-agency framework, including MARAC, safeguarding teams, and statutory services.
* Respond to referrals from clinicians and provide timely, effective interventions.
* Attend Child Protection and MARAC meetings and represent clients in court when needed.
* Maintain accurate case records and contribute to internal and external reporting.
* Deliver training and awareness sessions to hospital staff to improve understanding of domestic abuse.
* Collaborate with external partners including police, social care, housing providers, and voluntary agencies.
More about you:
* Experience supporting survivors of domestic abuse, particularly those with complex or multiple needs.
* Strong understanding of domestic abuse dynamics, including harmful practices and trauma-informed care.
* Knowledge of criminal justice and civil remedies, safeguarding protocols, and housing legislation.
* Ability to manage a complex caseload and work effectively in crisis situations.
* Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with a commitment to empowering survivors.
* Experience working in multi-agency settings and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
* GCSEs (Maths & English A*-C) or equivalent.
* Relevant qualification or training in domestic abuse, social work, law, or criminal justice ( SafeLives).
* Knowledge of child protection legislation and safeguarding responsibilities.
* Proficient in casework, report writing, and using Microsoft Office.
* Understanding of cultural sensitivities and barriers faced by survivors from diverse backgrounds.
