Offer description

Are you an experienced nurse from an acute stroke, neurology, cardiology, or ITU-HDU setting looking for a new challenge?

Are you passionate about providing excellent care and take pride in your professional practice?

Are you a highly motivated nurse seeking opportunities for career progression and professional development?

Are you proactive and able to work well with a range of professionals under complex situations?

If you answered ‘Yes’ to the above, you are what we are looking for!

This is an exciting time to join the Acute Stroke Service at East Kent University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust (EKHUFT). Our service is expanding to a new 54-bed purpose-built acute stroke unit at William Harvey Hospital in 2027, alongside a system-funded local stroke Mechanical Thrombectomy service at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. To support these developments, we are enhancing our stroke nursing workforce to continue providing some of the best stroke care in the country.

We have opportunities for you to join our dedicated team of hyperacute nurses. This role involves 100% clinical work and rota-based shifts including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

The post-holder will be a key member of the hyperacute Stroke Team, responsible for responding to urgent stroke calls, facilitating rapid patient assessments, ensuring timely diagnosis, and initiating appropriate hyperacute care protocols for eligible patients. Providing Level-2 nursing care during the hyperacute stage is essential for optimal patient outcomes. The role involves delivering comprehensive 24/7 stroke care, both at the front door and inpatient settings.

You will work autonomously in collaboration with the multidisciplinary stroke team. The role requires rotation between ward-based and front-door duties as per the roster. All nursing care must adhere to the NMC Code of Practice, service SOPs, Trust policies, and procedures.

You will play a vital role in achieving stroke-specific national and local quality standards, including thorough documentation to support audits such as SSNAP, contributing to governance and quality improvement.

Patient-centered care is fundamental; you will advocate for positive patient experiences. The role also includes clinical leadership and management responsibilities to support the Team Leader, junior team members, and ASU nurses.

East Kent Hospitals is one of the largest NHS trusts in England, serving a population of around 800,000 across five hospitals and community clinics. Our vision is 'Great healthcare from great people', guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected, and confident that we are making a difference.' Our 'We care' initiative empowers frontline staff to lead improvements daily. We seek compassionate individuals to join us in this journey of continuous improvement for our patients, families, and carers.
