Points worth noting before you start your application:

The starting salary is £23,061 pa plus 18% rotating shift and 33% night shift allowance

Shift Pattern of rotating 12-hour shifts working 4 on and 4 off (days and nights, including weekends and Bank Holidays)

We offer a comprehensive training programme to help you within the role, with new members of staff enrolling on the NVQ Level 2 Professional Security Operative course, with other NVQ and degree-level courses available as further training and development opportunities

You will hold a full clean driving licence (not requiring a HGV or PSV)

What should you expect from the role?

Our aim is to ensure we have a welcoming, inclusive university community where people can safely study, work and live.

As part of the Campus Support & Security team, you will need to be prepared for a wide variety of situations that can change in an instant. Your responsibilities could include patrolling the busy areas of responsibility, including a large city centre based campus, halls of residences and a remote veterinary teaching campus or talking with a student who is looking for advice or assistance whilst adjusting to the demands of university life and being away from the comforts of home.

This role involves delivering a comprehensive service for everyone who uses our campus. You will have daily contact with the university community, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, gather intelligence, and provide reassurance.

Above all, your presence will help maintain a safe, friendly, and secure environment by being proactive, approachable, visible, and attentive.

About You:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual who embraces variety and is willing to meet challenges head-on, including difficult or sensitive situations. High level of communication skills are essential: you will need to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds, demonstrate diplomacy, and stay calm when under pressure. You must also be able to act decisively and effectively.

A key part of the role is serving as a first responder in safety and welfare incidents, so we value individuals who can remain composed while responding with care, compassion, and professionalism.

Previous experience in a similar role is not essential. What matters most is the right attitude, a commitment to delivering excellent service, and the ability to work as part of a team. We will provide training to help you develop the specific skills required.

Pay and Benefits:

The starting salary for an Assistant Campus Support & Security Officer is £ 23,061 per annum.

In addition to this, you are given an 18% rotating shift and 33% night shift allowance per annum
