Job Description:

Help Shape the Future of Social Work in Swindon

Are you passionate about developing the next generation of social workers? Do you have the expertise to guide practitioners from students to qualified professionals? Swindon Borough Council is a small borough with big ambitions and the development of our social workers is at the heart of this ambition. We are looking for an exceptional Practice Learning and ASYE Coordinator to join our Social Work Academy.

Your Role

As our Practice Learning and ASYE Coordinator, you'll be instrumental in building a robust professional development framework that supports social workers at every stage of their career journey. Working alongside our Academy Team Manager and Practice Development Service Manager, you'll support staff on pathways from degree entry and apprenticeships through to qualified practice and beyond. We have redesigned the way we deliver our ASYE programme and think it is a very exciting time to join us.

You will:

1. Coordinate and support all social work student placements across Children's Social Care
2. Develop and deliver engaging learning workshops for students, apprentices, and newly qualified social workers
3. Manage and grow our talented team of practice educators to maximise their impact
4. Conduct practice observations and provide reflective supervision
5. Engage with our universities and other providers to ensure our unique offer is understood and promoted
6. Represent Swindon in regional and national social work learning/education forums

About You

The ideal candidate will bring:

7. A social work qualification with current Social Work England registration
8. Practice Educator qualification and experience
9. Solid experience in children's social care and practice learning
10. Strong understanding of social work education pathways and frameworks
11. Experience in designing and delivering learning programmes
12. Excellent coaching and mentoring abilities
13. Outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills
14. The creativity to innovate in training design and delivery

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

What We Offer

This is a unique opportunity to influence social work practice across Swindon. You'll work at the heart of our Social Work and Leadership Academy, contributing directly to service improvement and workforce development. You'll build relationships with universities and regional partners while helping create a positive reputation for Swindon's Children's Social Care.

Join us in developing confident, skilled practitioners who will make a real difference to the lives of children and families in Swindon. Furthermore, you will be joining us at an exciting time. Swindon Borough Council is on a journey to transform service delivery and have been shortlisted for the ‘Most Improved Council’ at the Local Government Awards (LGA). We want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
