<div><h3>Job Overview</h3><p>We are looking to recruit a full‑time Consultant in Infection (Consultant with Specialist Training in Microbiology and CCT in Microbiology or Combined Infection Training or joint CCT in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology or equivalent) to work within an evolving Infection Service based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR).</p><p>The post will commence February 2027, with interviews towards the end of October 2026. The position is a consultant contract, full time, with an annual salary of £113,565 – £150,569 (depending on experience). Closing date: 15/10/2026. Ref: 438-CA819.</p><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Provide a 24‑hour advisory service to clinicians and other service clients, responding to numerous telephone requests for advice.</li><li>Participate in ward rounds, multi‑disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and clinical liaison for a range of specialist units including critical care, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, surgery and nephrology.</li><li>Manage patients on the OPAT service and oversee note writing and reporting.</li><li>Conduct undergraduate teaching of medical students and clinical supervision of Higher Specialist Scientific Training.</li><li>Participate in the Infection Service consultant on‑call rota (one in six) for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.</li><li>Assume continuous commitment for patient care, even when employed less than full‑time, ensuring adequate arrangements for leave and off‑duty periods.</li><li>Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, ensuring continuing professional development and compliance with current guidelines.</li><li>Develop links with general practitioners operating in the area to support integrated care.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Primary medical qualification.</li><li>Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview).</li><li>UK‑trained applicants must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in microbiology or joint CCT in infectious diseases and microbiology, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.</li><li>Non‑UK‑trained applicants will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.</li><li>Other relevant higher degrees.</li></ul><h3>Experience and Skills</h3><ul><li>Trained clinical supervisor.</li><li>Demonstrable high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of infection and laboratory liaison.</li><li>Trained educational supervisor.</li><li>Experience of infection prevention, antibiotic review service and outpatient antimicrobial therapy.</li><li>Experience in other medical specialties.</li></ul><h3>Management</h3><ul><li>Evidence of clinical leadership.</li><li>Evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development.</li><li>Attendance at a recognised management course.</li></ul><h3>Research and Development</h3><ul><li>Evidence of interest in personal development through research and/or publications.</li></ul><h3>Health</h3><ul><li>Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/Good Medical Practice.</li></ul><h3>Personal</h3><ul><li>Evidence of effective communication skills.</li><li>Good organisational skills with examples.</li><li>Works well within a multidisciplinary environment.</li><li>Resident within 30 minutes travel time to Preston/Chorley.</li><li>Car owner/driver.</li></ul><h3>Equality, Diversity and Inclusion</h3><p>We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity, celebrating and valuing diversity and eliminating any form of unlawful discrimination across our workforce.
