 
        
        Overview
Optometric Technician at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. Full‑time position, located at The Eye Institute – Chestnut Hill and Oak Lane.
Responsibilities
 * Monitor patient flow and clinician activity in EHR (NextGen) to ensure a smooth flow of patient care.
 * Work with assigned students to ensure proper training in patient care procedures, techniques, and systems; evaluate student performance through Meditrek (grading system).
 * Provide direct patient care services, including visual field testing, ocular photography, nerve fiber analysis, optical coherence tomography, ultrasonography, vision screenings, contact lens dispensing and training, pre‑exam data collection, and patient education.
 * Assist in ensuring all hardware, small equipment, and software used are functional and ready for patient care activities; report non‑functioning or defective equipment immediately.
 * Stock clinical workstations, exam/procedure rooms, and supplies; initiate reorder as needed.
 * Facilitate coordination of patient care services within the clinic and Specialty Care (e.g., specialty testing and primary care appointments; Retina and Glaucoma Services).
 * Obtain medical records in advance of patient appointments when needed.
 * Assist providers with medication refills and prior authorizations by evaluating patient medication refill requests for validity and necessity; process all appropriate requests and document refill orders in the medical records.
 * Problem‑solve and make guided decisions about patient care issues and area function.
 * Manage infectious waste and ensure all small equipment for specialty services is functional and ready.
 * Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
 * High school diploma or GED.
 * One year of experience working as an optometric or ophthalmic technician.
 * Must obtain COA or CPOA certification within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
 * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent telephone manners.
 * Experience with computers, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
 * CPOT or COA certification preferred.
Physical Demands
 * Sitting at a desk/table.
 * Standing, walking.
 * Bending, crouching, stooping.

The Eye Institute – Chestnut Hill.
Compensation
Non‑Exempt, grade I. Hourly rate ranges from $19.69 to $29.54. Typical rate aligns with minimum to midrange of this grade and varies based on qualifications, experience, department budget, and internal equity review.
