The role
Health Care Support Worker within Glasgow District Nursing Services, providing a range of clinical and personal care interventions to patients in homes or residential settings. Support the District Nurse in delivering safe, effective community‑based care.
Duration, location, and working pattern
Full‑time, permanent. Base location: Govan Health Centre, Glasgow South.
Shift pattern: Monday to Sunday, including weekends and backshifts.
Key responsibilities
* Supporting clinical care – Assist District Nurses with a broad range of clinical duties.
* Managing long‑term conditions – Support monitoring and care for patients with chronic illnesses.
* Wound care – Contribute to assessment, dressing changes, and ongoing wound management.
* End‑of‑life care – Provide compassionate support to patients and families.
* Promoting independence – Enable patients to remain at home safely and maintain their preferred place of care.
* Preventing hospital admissions – Deliver timely interventions to avoid unnecessary admissions and support safe discharge.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
* SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience.
* Ability to work with people and as part of a team.
* Ability to work without direct supervision.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* A driving licence required for community travel.
* Understanding of community‑based care, long‑term condition management, wound care principles, and person‑centred support.
