Main duties of the role
The Outpatient Matron will provide strategic and operational leadership across both maternity sites, coordinating, ensuring the safety, quality and patient experience of the services listed above. The role includes participation in maternity out‑of‑hours on‑call duties, management of nursing/associated staff, oversight of budgets, implementation of clinical governance principles, collaboration with the facilities department and acting as a focal point for patient advice and liaison services.

* Provide senior leadership and operational oversight across outpatient and specialist maternity services
* Champion a culture of safety, quality and continuous learning
* Offer expert advice, support and guidance to multidisciplinary maternity teams
* Act as a role model, influencing the ongoing development of midwifery services
* Lead workforce development, fostering a positive learning environment
* Collaborate across the Clinical Service Unit to ensure seamless service delivery

* Significant senior‑level experience within maternity services
* Exceptional communication, organisational and influencing skills
* A proven ability to lead, motivate and develop high‑performing teams
* Strong commitment to quality, safety and evidence‑based practice
* The ability to drive change and respond to national maternity transformation agendas
Person specification – qualifications
One or more of the following qualifications or experience:
* Trainee or qualified midwife with advanced level certification
* Experience in leadership/management within a maternity or acute care setting
* Knowledge and application of national maternity transformation programmes
