This is a 10 + 1 PA full‑time Consultant Haematologist post. The Trust‑wide post is based at St Helier Hospital and completes a team of 8 Consultants across the Trust. The appointee must be broadly skilled and take part in all clinical and laboratory work of the Department. The role includes a lead position that can be adjusted to match the applicant’s interests and experience. A Consultant wishing to work less than full time may be considered for the post. The position is available to start from 8th June 2026.
Responsibilities
* Always comply with the GMC’s guidance on Good Medical Practice.
* Ensure patient confidentiality is always maintained.
* Undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan, as practicable and in agreement with Clinical Leads.
* Be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence; professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
* On commencement, ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
* Participate in the Trust’s Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
* Be responsible for the clinical management of in‑patients and out‑patients under your care.
* Demonstrate flexibility according to departmental requirements after discussion with the Clinical Lead.
* Contribute to the clinical care of patients referred to the Haematology Department at both St Helier and Epsom General Hospitals.
* Participate in three out‑patient clinics per week.
* Participate in the clinical rotas for the management of in‑patients at St Helier Hospital.
* Have an office with a personal desk and computer; have access to a microscope, including 2‑ and 6‑headed microscopes for teaching purposes.
* Receive dedicated secretarial support from shared medical secretaries/patient pathway coordinators.
* Advise all laboratory users—including general practitioners—on general haematology problems as required.
* Hold a lead role, to which one PA is allocated; currently planned as the Haemato‑Oncology MDT lead role.
