Behaviour Support Worker – Mental Health & Behaviour (Newcastle, Gateshead & Durham)
We’re looking for compassionate and resilient Behaviour Support Workers to provide one-to-one and small group support for young people across Newcastle, Gateshead, and Durham. You’ll play a key role in improving mental health, emotional well-being, and educational engagement, working closely with schools, families, and professionals to make a real difference.
What You’ll Do
* Support young people individually and in groups to build resilience, confidence, and positive coping strategies.
* Use effective behaviour management techniques to reduce barriers to learning and promote emotional regulation.
* Mentor and guide students to develop social skills and a growth mindset.
* Step in to deliver intervention programmes when required.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, mental health specialists, and families to create consistent support.
* Assess needs and implement tailored support plans.
* Manage crisis situations calmly, ensuring safety and well-being at all times.
* Keep accurate records of progress, safeguarding concerns, and incidents.
Requirements
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
* Calm, patient, and confident approach
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Flexible and proactive mindset
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one)
