Overview
Driving Examiner – Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Location: Netherton. Salary: £28,119. Permanent, full-time role. Closing soon.
About the role
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact on road safety and on the moments when people rely on being able to travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission and help drivers start their driving journey on the right track. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
What you will do
We will provide all the training you need to get your career off to an incredible start. Test centres are grouped into clusters; you will select a cluster local to you. After a job offer, training begins online, followed by practical training at a local test centre. You will have up to three weeks of guidance at a regional training facility before embarking on a varied career assessing drivers seeking to secure their licences. On a day-to-day basis, you will oversee seven driving examinations and use a tablet to record results. You will determine whether candidates meet the expected standards and deliver feedback with tact and diplomacy, including positive and negative outcomes.
To be successful
We value diversity and inclusivity and expect exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills. You will be calm and unflappable under pressure. You must be a safe driver who has held a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years. You must have no more than three penalty points on your licence, a good knowledge of the Highway Code and correct road procedures. You should be friendly, team-spirited and passionate about setting standards that drivers will uphold for years to come.
What you can expect in return
We offer an excellent work-life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays and an extra privilege day to mark the King's birthday. You will also receive additional benefits, including an employer contribution to your pension of up to 27%.
If you are ready to embark on an interesting career where no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you.
