In this job you will be working within the Council's Cleansing Service which is responsible for carrying out refuse collection and street cleaning throughout Kirklees. You will work largely on your own in an allocated area using a Street Orderly Cart and other equipment which will be provided to maintain clean streets.
As a front-line member of staff you will regularly come into contact with citizens and will need to be committed to providing excellent customer service. You will help to identify and report problems about waste so that appropriate action can be taken to improve the whole street environment.
Requirements for the job: -
* Ability to work alone with long periods of no supervision.
* Possess the skills to be able to follow a work plan and work to a schedule of sweeping rounds.
* Able to carry out physically demanding work including bending, lifting and walking for considerable periods.
* Has numeracy and literacy skills to complete, timesheets and accident records.
* Able to input basic data onto IT systems.
* Demonstrates understanding of legislation related to the role and what measures would need to be in place to work safely.
* Ability to communicate with customers and colleagues on work delivery matters.
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Prepared to undertake work patterns which require flexibility and to work on some public holidays.
* Ability to attain a Certificate of Competence issued under the FEPA following completion of a short practical based training course regarding the Pesticides Application regulations and comply with the training.
* Work to and within the councils expectations for the job from the Job Description, and within the councils behaviours.
