Job Title
Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency – Location: Norfolk, England (Hybrid)
Overview
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. Expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems is beneficial.
Working within our Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will influence and shape how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to achieve safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet our commitments to net zero carbon.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain our electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules.
* Co‑deliver competency and skills guidance for employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (within normal or out‑of‑hours).
* Work closely with engineering, asset management and control system teams across pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Support the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Provide specialist technical advice and design to ensure effective, efficient and safe MEICA activity.
Qualifications & Experience
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and processes.
* Excellent work management, team‑working and communication skills.

Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution.
* Registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of progress towards registration within 12 months.
* Flexibility for hybrid working and incident response.

This is a hybrid role. Base location will be near your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date. If you consent to being held on a reserve list, we will hold your details for six months.
