Role Overview
As a Branch Manager, you will support and oversee our branch in The Salisbury area of England, ensuring performance is sustained at its current level and optimized for continuous growth. You will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance and the correct implementation of company policies and procedures. You will lead, motivate, and develop your team to achieve objectives.
Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in a Builders' Merchant environment, either locally or nationally, managing large teams across various disciplines and career levels. Experience in sectors such as Timber, Roofing, Plumbing, and General Building is required; civils background is advantageous but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
General
* Handle special projects as required
* Provide out-of-hours support for alarm and CCTV systems, including being first on call for the branch
* Act as a key holder for the branch
* Respond to and resolve customer complaints
People Management
* Lead by example, fostering a supportive environment
* Develop staff capabilities, addressing underperformance with coaching
* Delegate tasks effectively to maximize performance
* Manage staffing levels and resource allocation
* Recruit, induct, and onboard new employees in collaboration with HR
* Manage payroll processes
* Conduct disciplinary and grievance procedures with HR support
Branch Performance
* Complete stock takes and investigate variances
* Manage stock levels to ensure adequacy
* Maintain high customer service standards and timely delivery
* Ensure system housekeeping and order validation
* Develop supplier relationships
* Make trading and margin decisions within authorized limits
* Coordinate with other branches for stock optimization
Change and Improvements
* Propose and communicate operational changes
* Apply fairness and consistency in decision-making
Health & Safety / Compliance
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
* Work with authorities to avoid prohibition notices
* Encourage staff responsibility and standards
* Monitor tachographs and driver hours to maintain operator license compliance
* Report incidents involving plant or vehicles
* Complete injury reports promptly
* Follow company procedures on banking and paperwork
* Complete monthly safety checklists
