The Team
ITS is the University’s IT directorate responsible for the maintenance and development of IT services. One focus area is the Innovation and Technology Services department, which supports the core learning technologies such as the Virtual Learning Environment, e‑Portfolio, Media Library, and online assessment tools.
The Role
The TEL Advisor role performs all elements of IT service management for application services, including ITIL practices such as Incident, Request, Problem, Change, Capacity, Availability, Event, Knowledge and Asset management. The role holder is a subject‑matter expert in at least one IT service, leads on the delivery of at least one ITIL practice, and serves as a change ambassador across the organisation to support the University’s Digital Plan.
Duties Will Include
* Provide first‑ and second‑line support for staff using VLE, e‑Portfolio, Media Library, and related tools.
* Administer and improve digital learning platforms, including course creation, enrolment, tracking, and assessment.
* Partner with academics and professional services to develop accessible, inclusive, high‑quality online learning materials.
* Plan, deliver, and evaluate staff development on learning technologies.
* Contribute to TEL projects that enhance functionality, performance, and integration of services.
* Create and maintain clear documentation, guides, and multimedia resources.
* Use analytics, feedback, and service metrics to inform improvements.
* Test and evaluate new tools and features using structured methods.
* Produce and manage media to support teaching, learning, and assessment.
* Ensure accessibility, inclusivity, copyright, and data protection standards are met.
Required Skills And Experiences
* Significant experience as a learning technologist in Higher Education.
* Strong track record of leading and supporting innovative technology‑enhanced learning, teaching and assessment.
* Ability to design, deliver and evaluate training and development interventions.
* Experience of implementing, integrating and embedding TEL systems into everyday academic practice.
* Understanding of quality enhancement in Higher Education and digital tools’ contribution to student learning.
* Knowledge of TEL standards, inclusion, accessibility, privacy, intellectual property and copyright considerations.
* Experience of managing or leading people and/or projects and evidence of professional development in leadership or management.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building relationships at all levels within the University.
* Collaborative approach to support shared goals across ITS and wider departments.
