We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly and supportive General Practice team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality patient care and supporting the clinical team in the day‑to‑day running of the practice.
Working under the guidance of the nursing team and GPs, you will carry out a range of clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, health checks, vaccinations (if trained), and assisting with chronic disease management. You will also contribute to the overall patient experience by providing reassurance, health promotion advice and practical support throughout their visit.
This role is ideal for someone with previous HCA experience, preferably in primary care or community health, who is enthusiastic, organised, and committed to making a difference in the lives of our patients. Training will be given to the right candidate as applicable.
Job Responsibilities
* 1. Nursing
o New patient registration checks
o Health checks, carers health checks, diabetes health checks including completing any necessary paperwork
o BP & 24‑hour BP monitoring, weight monitoring, ECGs
o Urinalysis, phlebotomy, other samples as applicable
o Vaccinations (Covid, Flu and other applicable)
o Provide lifestyle advice and make referrals within the practice
o Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
o Ensure smooth clinical waste collection; report problems to the nurse manager
o Ensure sharps bins are ready for collection; restock and maintain equipment in clinical areas and consulting rooms
* 2. Administration and Professional Responsibilities
o Accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments recorded in patient notes
o Accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration
o Appropriate items of service claims made accurately; report any problems to the practice administrator
o Collection and maintenance of statistical information for regular and ad‑hoc reports
o Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
o Assist in formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy
o Create and send recall letters for clinics
* 3. Management of Appointment System
o Familiarity with all appointment systems
o Book appointments and recalls; ensure sufficient information is recorded for retrieval of the medical record
o Monitor patient flow into the waiting room and ensure the system accurately reflects arrivals
o Report any problems or variations to management
* 4. Any Other Delegated Duties considered appropriate to the post
