Overview
This is a collaborative venture between The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) and Mid-Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) to support the clinical haematology services across the southern sector of the GMCCN and the delivery of clinical and laboratory haematology on the Leighton Hospital site. The Christie haematology clinical team based at Leighton Hospital is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic consultant to join as a Christie Clinical Haematologist. The post is 10 PAs per week plus on-call support, based at Leighton Hospital, with flexibility considered for part-time applicants. A one-off attraction payment of 20% of the first year’s gross salary (pre-tax, NI) will be paid on commencement, subject to minimum service requirements.
Role content will require that the post holder remain in post for a minimum period of 2 years. This appointment is for direct applicants and not via an agency.
Responsibilities
* Provide consultant-level support to The Christie clinical haematology service and implement best practice in Haematology.
* Deliver three outpatient clinics per week and manage outpatients attending the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit for treatment.
* Provide specialist input into the care of inpatients at Leighton Hospital.
* Engage in considerable liaison with local General Practitioners for haematological advice.
* Join the existing consultant rota to assist with service delivery.
* Be a core member of the haematology and lymphoma multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the development of a special interest aligned with service needs.
* Develop and implement best practice, support staff, and participate in the Hospital Transfusion Committee; participate in NEQAS film reporting.
Role Purpose and Setting
The post will be based at Leighton Hospital. The clinical haematology department provides outpatient, day care and inpatient services to BCSH level 2a, with a dedicated team and shared duties within the Haematology and lymphoma MDTs.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Evidence of registrar-level or higher consultant experience in haematology.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to service development.
* Willingness to develop a special interest to meet unmet clinical haematology service needs.
