We're working with a respected public sector organisation to recruit an experienced HGV Mechanic to support their in-house fleet services. This is a hands-on, workshop-based role, ideal for someone who takes pride in delivering high-quality maintenance and repair work on a wide range of heavy vehicles and plant machinery.
You'll join a busy team responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient operation of essential public service vehicles across the borough - from refuse collection lorries and gritters to tipper trucks and light commercial vans.
Your day-to-day will include:
* Carrying out routine maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs on HGVs and associated plant.
* Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults and resolving them quickly and efficiently.
* Preparing vehicles for MOT, PSV and compliance inspections.
* Completing all job cards and maintenance records to required standards.
* Responding to breakdowns or urgent repairs, occasionally off-site.
* Ensuring health and safety procedures and workshop standards are consistently upheld.
What we're looking for:
* Fully qualified HGV Mechanic (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance).
* Experience maintaining and repairing a range of HGVs and plant machinery.
* Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a workshop environment.
* A proactive, team-focused approach and the ability to work independently when required.
* A full UK driving licence - HGV Class 2 (Category C) preferred, or willingness to obtain.
Desirable:
* Experience working within a local authority or public sector fleet.
