Payroll Officer
Location: Leicester – Central Support Hub, Thurmaston
Salary: £28,000 per annum
Full Time: 40 hours per week (with occasional weekend work)
The Role
As a Payroll Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the end-to-end payroll process across the organisation. You will work closely with HR, Finance and operational managers to ensure payroll information is accurate, compliant and processed efficiently.
You will also act as a key point of contact for payroll-related queries, ensuring our employees receive excellent support and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Processing employee salaries, wages, bonuses, overtime and deductions accurately and in line with payroll deadlines
2. Maintaining accurate payroll records, ensuring employee information is always up to date
3. Inputting and validating timesheets, attendance records and rota data to support payroll processing
4. Administering employee rota systems and maintaining payroll data within Sage Payroll
5. Managing new starter, leaver and contractual change information within payroll systems
6. Processing statutory payments including sick pay, maternity pay, paternity pay and other statutory entitlements
7. Ensuring tax, National Insurance and pension deductions are calculated and applied correctly
8. Managing employee benefit deductions including salary sacrifice schemes and other voluntary deductions
9. Responding to and resolving payroll-related queries from employees and managers in a timely and professional manner
10. Supporting the preparation and submission of HMRC payroll reporting, including RTI submissions
11. Assisting with monthly payroll reconciliations and ensuring payroll records align with finance records
12. Conducting regular payroll checks and audits to ensure data accuracy and compliance with legislation
13. Preparing and distributing payslips and payroll reports for management and internal departments
14. Supporting the Payroll Team Leader in reviewing and improving payroll processes and systems
15. Working collaboratively with HR and Finance teams to ensure payroll processes align with company policies and employment changes
16. Maintaining strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and payroll information
17. Supporting with general payroll administration tasks and assisting with payroll projects when required
What We Are Looking For
18. Minimum 12 months experience in payroll processing or payroll administration
19. Strong understanding of payroll processes, legislation and compliance
20. Advanced Excel skills and confidence using Microsoft Office
21. Strong numerical and analytical ability
22. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
23. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
24. Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with employees and managers across the organisation
