Job Overview
The Sonographer will work as part of a multidisciplinary Imaging team, liaising with radiologists, nurses, and other professionals to provide high‑quality ultrasound imaging, reporting and patient management. The post is cross‑site, operating at Macclesfield District General Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Congleton. You will work within departmental protocols developed in partnership with national guidelines and collaborate closely with consultant radiologists in managing day‑to‑day workload.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound across a broad range of specialties including General Abdominal, Gynaecology, MSK, small parts, head and neck, Vascular, DVT, Obstetrics and early pregnancy scans.
- Conduct imaging and reporting as per department protocols and national guidelines.
- Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate imaging, reporting and patient management.
- Work within two purpose‑built general ultrasound departments located at Macclesfield and CDC, each with dedicated ultrasound rooms.
- Provide vascular ultrasound services, including arterial and venous scans, in collaboration with vascular surgeons and an accredited vascular scientist (AVS).
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of ultrasound techniques, including liver stiffness measurement scanning if possible.
- Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, and contribute to continuous professional development.
Essential Qualifications
- Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DC(R)) or BSc (Bachelor of Science) in Radiography.
- Post‑graduate qualification: Diploma in Medical Ultrasound, Post‑graduate Diploma or Post‑graduate Certificate.
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
- Accredited vascular scientist qualification with Society of Vascular Technology (SVT) and/or accreditation with Academy for HealthCare Scientists (AHCS).
- Updated skills in ultrasound with an ongoing CPD portfolio.
Desirable Qualifications
- Management course or qualification.
- Post‑graduate Diploma (PgD) / Post‑graduate Certificate (PgC) from a CASE accredited institute.
- Knowledge of College of Radiographers policies.
