Job Summary

The Show Set Designer is responsible for design, development, and documentation of attraction, scenic, and show elements primarily utilising architectural and CAD software as a design and coordination tool. Responsible for developing virtual and physical models, scene studies, renders, plans, sections, drawings, and drawing packages depicting design and art direction. As part of the Creative Design team, the role assists the Senior Show Set Designer, Production Designer, Art Director, and Creative Director in developing details creatively integrating the myriad show, facility, equipment, and elements into the overall creative environment. Responsible for integration and coordination of show and facility elements in the drawing package. Utilises various drafting techniques, 3D modelling & drawing techniques and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Maya, Adobe Graphics software, 3D software, etc.) to model, draw, draft and create dimensional, scale drawings and models detailing the design intent and the integration of various show elements with each other and the facility. Responsible for designing to project program and budget, and for coordinating and integrating with other disciplines including but not limited to engineering, operations, and architect/engineer of record.


Major Responsibilities

* Conceives, develops, and iterates ride and show design elements that are assembled into a high‑quality show set design package. The package articulates the creative design intent and details the various show elements of an attraction, including scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, animated props, audio equipment, lighting equipment, and more.
* Designs creative development and iteration of ride and show design elements with a focus on scenery, props, environment, architecture, facility, sightlines, and scale through various phases of development.
* Develops and manages the show set design package and creates presentation materials such as sketches, storyboards, layouts, illustrations, plans, sections, and elevations.
* Participates in design, cost, schedule, and technical reviews and is responsible for developing creative and feasible solutions to integrate elements into a themed environment.
* Mentors and provides guidance and training to staff, motivating them to achieve assignment goals, and builds bench strength by identifying training and development opportunities.
* Establishes and maintains positive and productive team relationships based on open communication, trust, and teamwork with project partners, departments, disciplines, and personnel, and communicates, inspires, and maintains project intent among all team members.
* Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
* Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

* Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred (Architecture, Fine Arts, Design, Theatre, Graphics, Computer Animation, etc.).
* Experience within an attraction development environment required or an equivalent combination of education and experience, successfully designed, developed and assembled multiple show set design packages.
* Creative, innovative, organised thinker and problem solver with strong technical and artistic ability, versed in show set/scenic design and drafting, 3‑D modelling, architectural design, and related tools.
* Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; preferably strong 3‑D computer modelling & rendering skills.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team that includes aesthetic, technical and project management disciplines.
