HVAC Maintenance Engineer / Building Services Engineer
An excellent opportunity for an experienced HVAC Maintenance Engineer / Building Services Engineer to join a leading research and innovation organisation, supporting the operation and maintenance of advanced mechanical and building services systems across a large scientific campus.

SALARY: £38,000 to £43,000 per annum + Benefits
LOCATION: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 37.5 Hours per Week
Responsibilities
* Carry Out Maintenance: Deliver planned preventive, reactive, and condition-based maintenance across HVAC and building services systems
* Investigate Faults: Diagnose and resolve technical issues on air handling units, chillers, boilers, and ventilation systems
* Optimise Systems: Analyse BMS data and implement energy efficiency improvements
* Test and Commission: Commission and re-commission plant and equipment to operational standards
* Maintain Records: Record maintenance activities and results in the CAFM system
* Supervise Contractors: Coordinate small works and oversee specialist subcontractors where required
* Ensure Compliance: Conduct risk assessments and method statements to maintain safe working practices
* Respond to Emergencies: Participate in an on-call rota to support out-of-hours maintenance issues
* Support Building Operations: Assist with general building services and ensure systems operate safely and efficiently
Candidate Requirements
ESSENTIAL
* Apprenticeship or equivalent training in mechanical or electrical engineering
* City & Guilds Level 3 in HVAC or Building Services Engineering
* F-Gas Category 1 certification
* Proven experience of maintaining HVAC and building services systems in commercial or laboratory environments
* Working knowledge of BMS systems and SFG20 standards
* Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good communication and IT skills (Microsoft Office)
* Full, clean UK driving licence
DESIRABLE
* Experience with boilers, chillers, heat pumps, or medical gas systems
* Familiarity with Trend control systems and Concept Evolution CAFM software
* Knowledge of TM44, CIBSE energy efficiency practices
* Understanding of building fabric maintenance and small works coordination
