Overview
Walker Group provides advanced high-precision manufacturing services from centres of excellence located in the UK and Poland. We are seeking a Senior CMM & QA Engineer to join our technical team in Glasgow.
This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of complex, high-specification components across the aerospace, space, defence, and telecommunication sectors. The ideal candidate will have proven experience, programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), a deep understanding of quality systems, and a passion for maintaining the highest standards in metrology and inspection.
Responsibilities
* Comply with all Health & Safety and Environmental policies and regulations. Proactively identify hazards and promote a safe, sustainable work environment.
* Develop CMM inspection programs and methodologies for New Product Introductions (NPI), including fixture design, gauging identification, probing strategies, and alignment routines to ensure accurate and repeatable measurements.
* Create, test, and optimise existing inspection CMM programs using PC-DMIS & Calypso; alternative software will be considered.
* Support first article, in-process, and final inspections to ensure components meet customer specifications.
* Apply GD&T principles and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models accurately.
* Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain records for traceability and audits.
* Document non-conformances and support continuous improvement initiatives / cost reduction activity of manufacturing processes.
* Support cost estimations through detailed analysis from a quality aspect.
* Provide technical support and troubleshooting of shop floor CMMs.
* Support investigations / Root Cause Analysis for any defective part and implement corrective actions within a cross-functional team.
* Liaise with customers on drawing updates and change requests from a dimensional and inspection methodology.
* Conduct capability analyses (e.g., Cp, Cpk) of production processes to assess measurement system performance and ensure process stability and compliance with quality standards.
* Utilise SPC tools, including run charts and control charts, to monitor process performance and support data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
* Train operators or inspectors on inspection equipment and procedures.
* Support quality certification efforts by preparing and participating in audits, ensuring compliance with standards and implementing corrective actions based on audit findings.
* Ensure all CMM programs, probe configurations, and inspection documentation are finalised, version-controlled, and ready for production handover.
* Perform routine calibration and verification of CMMs and measurement tools to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Skills and Attributes
* Technical Skills: CMM Programming with PC-DMIS & Calypso (offline and online); GD&T; inspection methods (FAI, in-process, final, and visual); statistical tools (SPC, Cp/Cpk, run charts, control charts); basic Minitab; use of manual measurement tools; CMM probe calibration and stylus configuration; Excel-based reporting.

Qualifications & Experience
* Time-served Engineer and/or HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering/Quality discipline.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Lean Six Sigma – advantageous.
* Statistical software – advantageous.
