This position allows you to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Social Cohesion Strategy, aimed at improving community relations and building trust in statutory agencies. As a Social Cohesion Coordinator, you will work closely with diverse communities, statutory partner agencies, and stakeholders to address the underlying causes of social issues that affect communities, including inequality, exclusion, and mistrust. This role involves developing partnerships and initiatives that strengthen community resilience and encourage intercultural dialogue, ensuring that social cohesion objectives are integrated across various platforms. The Social Cohesion Coordinator position is ideal for someone with experience in community cohesion environments, a deep understanding of social issues, and the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. If you are driven to create positive change and support community integration, this role provides the platform to lead impactful initiatives in Derby. The Opportunity In the role of Social Cohesion Coordinator, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact: Lead initiatives that bring communities together, fostering unity and reducing social divisions through engaging projects and events. Provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues and others across the council on inequalities, structural challenges, or harmful behaviours that impact communities. Work closely with diverse groups, including community leaders and partner organisations, to address and resolve social tensions effectively. Develop and deliver training sessions to enhance cultural understanding and promote inclusion across various community sectors. Build and maintain partnerships with organisations at local and national levels to share best practices and align efforts in promoting community cohesion. Provide expert advice to colleagues and stakeholders on social issues, helping to shape policies that support community integration and resilience. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of strategies that improve community relations and address the root causes of social challenges. About You To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have... • A strong background in managing projects related to social cohesion, with experience in fostering partnerships across diverse groups. • An understanding of the root causes of social issues such as inequalities, structural challenges, or harmful behaviours that impact communities and effective strategies to address them. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including community leaders and partner organisations. • Experience in working with diverse communities, including those that are disengaged or marginalised, to promote social inclusion and unity. • A thorough understanding of equality and diversity issues, with practical knowledge of how these apply within community settings. • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, manage resources, and deliver projects on time. • A degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in social or community cohesion. • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing initiative and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
