SEMH Teaching Assistant – Newcastle

Protocol Education is working in partnership with a specialist provision in the Newcastle area that supports children and young people who require tailored behavioural and emotional support. We are currently looking to appoint a resilient, enthusiastic and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team.
About the role:
1. Supporting pupils aged 7–16 with SEMH needs and associated learning difficulties
2. Working on a 1:1 or small group basis to build trust and engagement in learning
3. Assisting the class teacher in delivering a therapeutic, pupil-centred curriculum
4. Promoting emotional regulation, social development and positive behaviour strategies
The ideal candidate will have:
5. Experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural challenges
6. A calm, patient and nurturing approach
7. Strong communication and de-escalation skills
8. A background in youth work, sports coaching, care or behaviour mentoring (advantageous)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
