Job Summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Neurology to join our team of friendly and supportive neurology department.

The Neuroscience department was built over ten years ago to provide a self-contained department at York Hospital to include Neurology, Neurophysiology and multi-disciplinary Neuroscience services for York and the surrounding area of North Yorkshire.

The department provides office space and all outpatient facilities for Neurology, Specialist Nurses, multi-disciplinary and Neurophysiology clinics. The facilities include a physiotherapy gym, occupational therapy workshop, examination rooms, Consultant offices, secretarial offices, research rooms and a seminar room. The multi-disciplinary team of specialist Neuro-physiotherapists, Neuro-occupational therapists, Speech and language therapists and Specialist Nurses are all housed in the department. One section of the department is dedicated to Clinical Neurophysiology outpatient and investigatory facilities. In addition, a team of Neuro-psychologists provide psychology services from the department. We share the services of a dietician. There is a dedicated social worker based in the department.

The job will involve providing outpatients and elective neurology work based at York hospital.


Job Responsibilities

This post is a substantive permanent post based at York Hospital.

You will provide a general neurology service, comprising acute and elective outpatient and inpatient work.

Inpatient work is provide in normal working hours and will be shared with the entire consultant team, the neurology team also provide inpatient support to Scarborough hospital twice a week which is done in person.

An indicative 10 PA job plan will include 3-4 outpatients clinics per week (4 PAs), with approximately 2 PAs for SPA, 2 PAs for administration with the remainder for MDT, regional meetings, supervision and travel.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
* Hold of license to practise with the General Medical Council
* An appropriate higher qualification
* Knowledge of good medical practice and the General Medical Council requirements
* Is able to work effectively in spite of pressures
* Currently on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register, or due to obtain a relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview


Desirable

* MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research
* Substantive NHS experience
