Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in UK Primes and MOD sites, supporting defence-related engineering projects for Puma Berry’s clients. The contract engineer will contribute to the planning, design, development, integration, and testing of technology solutions in line with defence and aerospace standards. Daily responsibilities include interpreting technical requirements, preparing and reviewing engineering documentation, and coordinating with internal teams, subcontractors, and client stakeholders. The role involves monitoring project progress, identifying risks and issues, and supporting the resolution of technical challenges to keep work on schedule and within scope. The engineer will also assist with compliance activities, configuration control, and formal reporting to ensure delivery meets quality, safety, and regulatory expectations.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated engineering experience in defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries, with the ability to work across the full project lifecycle (requirements, design, development, test, and support).
* Strong systems, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering skills, including the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards.
* Experience working with subcontractors and multi-disciplinary teams, including coordination, technical oversight, and effective communication with stakeholders.
* Familiarity with defence or aerospace standards, assurance processes, configuration management, and documentation practices.
* Effective problem-solving, risk assessment, and analytical skills, with a structured approach to resolving technical issues under time and resource constraints.
* Proficiency with relevant engineering tools (e.g., modelling/simulation, requirements management, safety or test tools) appropriate to the candidate’s discipline.
* Ability to work on-site on a flexible basis, including any necessary security vetting or eligibility to work on defence-related projects in the UK.
* Relevant engineering degree (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Aerospace, Software) or equivalent professional experience; professional registration or progress toward it (e.g., IEng/CEng) is an advantage.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical reporting and the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
