The University of Essex is looking to recruit a highly motivated and organised individual to work with Dr Philippe Laissue and Prof Phil Mullineaux on an exciting project looking at plant signaling. The successful applicant will play a central role in the project and should have outstanding commitment and good abilities for lab-based research. You will be joining the School of Life Sciences, working on this pioneering project funded by the BBSRC. We are using advanced microscopy and fluorescent biosensors to identify a new signaling pathway in plants. We have had substantial investment in the bioimaging unit with the latest advanced microscopes (widefield, spinning disk confocal and light-sheets) and dedicated staff, as well as state-of-the-art plant growth facilities. Supporting our staff is important to us and we offer a range of provisions including flexible working and training opportunities. The School of Life Sciences is committed to the development of technical staff. You should hold a university degree in a scientific discipline (or an equivalent qualification) and a proven ability for dedicated, well-organised and focussed lab-based research work. Being able to work independently, clearly communicate experimental outcomes with the principal investigators, and trouble-shoot lower-level experimental or technical issues is also essential. Experience in plant transfection and/or fluorescence microscopy is an advantage. This is a fixed-term contract until 31 January 2026 part-time (0.8 FTE), starting as soon as possible. After the end of the fixed-term contract, there is the possibility to use the acquired skills and knowledge as the basis for a PhD in the Laissue research group. For the full list of skills and experience required, please refer to the person specification. Please see the attached job pack, which contains a full job description and person specification which outlines the full duties, skills, qualifications and experience needed for this role plus more information relating to the post.
