Working within the Major Projects Programme at Gatwick Airport means you will be part of a team delivering significant infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. The programme portfolio includes multi-million £ reconfigurations and extensions to International Departure Lounges, and the extension of a pier to increase capacity within the terminals and on the airfield.
As a Senior Field Engineer, you will work closely with the Project Management team to supervise and support multi-disciplined construction projects. Your experience on multi-million-pound projects with a focus on health, safety and quality will enable you to support all phases of the project from planning and execution to completion and handover. Role and responsibilities
What\'s the role? Reporting to the Programme Construction Manager, you will contribute to the successful delivery of large, complex projects across London Gatwick. You will collaborate with internal teams, airport stakeholders and contractors to ensure project success, with involvement from end to end of the delivery process.
Duties will include:
* Providing constructability reviews & aligning project delivery with business requirements.
* Leading construction management resources assigned to you, developing their skills, maintaining quality standards, and providing guidance and support.
* Delivering regular site safety engagement to ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards and promoting a positive HSE culture.
* Continual monitoring of H&S on site via routine inspections, addressing unsafe practices, and promoting good safety practices.
* Reviewing contractor CDM, Quality, Safety and Handover submittals for quality and compliance.
* Assisting the Project Manager with the review and processing of contractual correspondence.
* Solving construction challenges by working with the contractor to develop solutions.
* Inspecting reports to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications during construction and handover.
* Coordinating with multidisciplinary colleagues within Civil, Architectural, MEP, and Structural Engineering to ensure works are installed to plan.
* Facilitating contractor works by liaising with Gatwick stakeholders and Airlines for access, works planning, equipment shutdowns and permits following GAL processes.
What are we looking for?
The live environment at London Gatwick requires a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work with multiple stakeholders such as Airfield Operations, Passenger Operations, Baggage Operations and Security. In addition, this role requires:
* Degree level or equivalent in Building Services, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable but not essential.
* Experience delivering significant Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing projects.
* Experience as a Senior Field Engineer, Senior MEP Construction Manager or Senior MEP Engineer on larger complex infrastructure projects with multiple stakeholders and possession elements is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience leading small teams.
* Understanding of controlling and managing project close-out and handover (bringing into use).
* Experience addressing HSE issues in construction.
* Understanding of quality management.
* Experience tracking project progress against programme and flagging issues early for resolution/escalation.
* Ability to perform schedule monitoring, identify critical activities, milestones and track internal/external activities.
* Sound commercial and financial awareness, with knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts.
