Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer with a passion for problem-solving, precision design, and breathing new life into heavy industrial machinery?
We are partnering with a world-leading manufacturer of high-performance industrial capital equipment. Renowned for their engineering excellence, they support global processing industries by delivering bespoke machinery, major spare parts, and comprehensive refurbishment services that keep global production lines moving.
Due to continued growth within their Customer Service and Repairs division, they are seeking a detail-oriented Retrofit Engineer to join their highly skilled technical team.
The Role:
In this varied and dynamic role, you will bridge the gap between design engineering and real-world machinery restoration. You will be responsible for the engineering and technical activities relating to the spares, repairs, and complete rebuilds of heavy industrial equipment.
From reverse-engineering and modifying CAD models to diagnosing pre-used machinery, your work will directly ensure that customer equipment is refurbished to optimal working condition and the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design & Documentation: Produce high-quality 3D CAD models (SolidWorks) and 2D manufacturing drawings utilizing GD&T and DFMA principles.
* Data Management: Create and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part numbers within SAP, managing design modifications via the Engineering Change Note (ECN) process.
* Diagnostics & Reporting: Assess pre-used machinery and parts, conducting dismantling, cleaning, and inspection (DCI) processes to issue technical reports and repair recommendations for customer quotes.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide vital technical support to Sales, Purchasing, Quality, and shop-floor Production teams during assembly and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
* Customer & Site Support: Respond directly to customer technical queries and occasionally visit client sites or service stations to provide technical clarification, inspections, and instructions.
About You
To thrive in this role, you should be a self-motivated engineer who enjoys a mix of independent design work and cross-functional teamwork.
Requirements:
* Experience: 3–5 years of progressive experience in a mechanical engineering role, ideally focused on service, repairs, refurbishment, or heavy capital equipment.
* Qualifications: A Degree, HND, HNC, or ONC in Mechanical Engineering.
* Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D) & PDM, with a solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and DFMA.
* Industry Knowledge: Exposure to heavy machinery, fabrication, welding, or polymer/rubber processing technology is highly advantageous.
* Systems: Experience using SAP (or a similar enterprise ERP system) for BOM creation and change management is preferred.
* Attributes: Excellent time management skills with the flexibility to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate effectively with global internal teams and customers.
What’s on Offer?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable, globally recognised engineering group that genuinely invests in its staff. You will benefit from a collaborative working environment, continuous professional development (CPD), and the autonomy to manage your own projects from cradle to grave.
