About the Role
Our client is seeking a Data Scientist to join their growing team at this exciting stage. You’ll leverage machine learning, advanced analytics, and computational methods to generate actionable insights from complex biological and agricultural datasets. Your models and algorithms will help drive R&D, optimise experiments, and accelerate product development.
This is a pivotal role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, science-driven environment and wants to apply their skills to a mission with global impact.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modelling & Analysis
* Build and apply machine learning models to biological and agricultural datasets (genomics, phenotyping, imaging, etc.).
* Develop predictive models to support experimental design and decision-making.
* Conduct statistical analyses to uncover key insights and validate hypotheses.
Collaboration & Delivery
* Partner with biologists, agronomists, and engineers to translate scientific problems into data-driven solutions.
* Present findings and visualisations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Deliver insights that inform strategy, research, and product development.
Infrastructure & Tools
* Work with engineering teams to improve data pipelines and ensure data quality.
* Help define and scale the startup’s data science toolkit and best practices.
* Document methodologies, workflows, and results for reproducibility.
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
* Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field.
* Strong programming skills in Python and/or R.
* Proficiency with SQL and experience working with large datasets.
* Knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning, and data visualisation.
* Experience with BI or data science tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Jupyter, etc.).
* Bonus: experience working with genomics, biological, or agricultural datasets.
Business & Science Acumen
* Ability to translate scientific challenges into robust data models.
* Strong understanding of experimental design and statistical validation.
* Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth startups or research-driven environments.
Soft Skills
* Clear communicator who can make complex insights understandable.
* Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
* Comfortable working independently in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
* Excited to take ownership and grow with a scaling company.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in a biotech, agri-tech, or life sciences setting.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
* Knowledge of data engineering, pipelines, or workflow automation.
* Previous experience in a Series A–B stage startup.
